今日，日本の銀幕の大スターが誕生した。1954年11月3日，有楽町の日劇で，『ゴジラ』が公開されたのだ。それから50年，『ゴジラ FINAL WARS』が，2004年12月4日に公開されるまで，全28作の歴史を作ってきた。
大戸島に初めて姿を現わしたゴジラは，日本本土，品川に初上陸する。東海道線上り列車を破壊し，一度は海に姿を消したが，芝浦に再上陸。銀座松坂屋を壊し，服部時計店（現和光，銀座4丁目）を壊し，晴海通りを数寄屋橋へと向かう。外堀通りがまだお堀であった時で，数寄屋橋はその名の通り橋であった。ゴジラが，数寄屋橋を渡る。お堀の水が，波打つ。そして，日劇（有楽町2丁目）の前。初日挨拶よろしく，しっぽで日劇の建物をちょこっと壊して，熱線放射。その時のシーンで，右側に見えるのが，日劇。その後，国会議事堂，テレビ塔を廻って，隅田川の最下流，勝鬨橋に至る。
日劇は，1933年に開場され，1981年に最終公演を迎えるまで，数々の南洋憧憬をかき立てる日劇ダンシング・チームの「舞台」でもあり，日本の怪獣を出現させてきた「映画館」でもあった。53年前の11月3日，スクリーンで初めてゴジラが前を通る日劇で，そのスクリーンを見ていた劇場の臨場感とは，一体どれほどのものであっただろうか。残念ながら，私はまだ生まれていなかった。
初代ゴジラ以来，再びゴジラが日劇前を通るのは，30年後の復活版『ゴジラ』（1984年）である。既に往年の建物はなく，有楽町マリオン（有楽町センタービル）となっている。数寄屋橋は，橋ではなく地名となり，上には東京高速道路（首都高速ではない）も走るようになった時代だ。懐かしの50年代も，そして，私が生きた懐かしい60年代も，今はもうスクリーンでしか見られない。しかし，小学生だった頃，2年間にわたり毎月，宝塚大劇場（宝塚市）で，「舞台」と「映画館」の複合的シネマ体験を持てたことは，極めて貴重なことだったと思っている。2005年1月14日，試写会を含めて私は７回見た『ゴジラ FINAL WARS』の新潟での最終上映日，この日，劇場スクリーンからゴジラは去った。
ハッピー・バースデー，Dear ゴジラ。2013年には，約束通り，また会おう。ゴジラは，日本の銀幕に必ずや帰還する大スターなのだ。
