― 小津安二郎の描く東京 （1）
東京都大田区蒲田5丁目3番 宮之橋から呑川を望む
電車は，京浜東北線（南行），蒲田駅に差し掛かる
今から53年前の1月29日，小津安二郎監督の『早春』（松竹・大船）が公開された。これは，東京都大田区蒲田が舞台となっている映画だ。蒲田は，1920年から1936年までの戦間期，松竹キネマ蒲田撮影所があった東京の南の下町。「春の蒲田 花咲く蒲田 キネマの都」とは，当時撮影所で歌われた「蒲田行進曲」の一節で，映画『キネマの天地』（1986年，松竹）でも再現されている（JR蒲田駅の発車メロディーでもある）のだが，大田区花の「梅」も，暦の上では「早春」とは言え，この時期，さすがにまだ咲いていない。
映画『早春』の描くこの蒲田について，蒲田が故郷である私から，少しではあるが，皆さまにご紹介申し上げたいと思う。
東急蒲田駅（高架駅，左手） 西蒲田8丁目1番
『早春』の冒頭で，国電蒲田駅周辺での朝の出勤風景が描かれているのはご存じの方も多いと思うが，蓮實重彦も『監督 小津安二郎』（増補決定版，筑摩書房，2003年）で論じている有名な一連のシーンである。この中で，東急目蒲線・池上線の蒲田駅が国鉄蒲田駅と直角に接続している地点の南側を描いたショットがある。これは，現在の西蒲田8丁目1番で撮影されたものである。東急蒲田駅が高架化されるのは，1968年11月なので，1956年の映画では，まだ地上駅。そして，正面に京浜東北線の電車が通過するシーンも映画では見られるのだが，現在では，上の写真の通り，建物が建ち並び，ここからは全く見えない。
JR 蒲田駅 西口
国鉄蒲田駅の西口の光景に続いて，『早春』では，「今度二番線に参ります電車は，八時二十八分の蒲田始発大宮行きでございます。」と構内放送が流れ，京浜東北線の蒲田駅入線シーンが登場する。これは，西蒲田7丁目2番で撮影されたものである。下の写真が，その撮影ポイントだ。当時の国鉄蒲田駅のプラットホームは，島式1面2線なので，大宮行き（北行）は2番線，現在のJR蒲田駅（1961年に完成した島式2面3線）の4番線に相当する。

この入線シーンは，車輛編成の異なる二つの別個のショットで構成されているのだが，二つ目のショットの車輛編成は，先頭車から，「モハ73339＋モハ72203＋クハ79168」であることがはっきりと読み取ることができる。取り分け，「3輛目」のこの車輛形式称号は，まさにそれを見せるためのカットであり，撮影監督・厚田雄春の鉄道マニア（厚田雄春・蓮實重彦『小津安二郎物語』，筑摩書房，1989年）としての「こだわり」が，極めてよく現われている。その歴史的意味については，人文学部紀要『人文科学研究』第124輯に掲載予定の拙稿「東京の地理学と小津安二郎の映画技法―鉄道路線とゴジラ映画の視覚から―」で述べてある。
『早春』当時の京浜東北線は，「基本5輛＋附属3輛」の8輛編成であり，1966年には，山手線よりも早く，10輛化（McM'Tc'McM'TTMM'Tc'）され，現在は，「10輛貫通化」して久しい。1950年代は，63系の改造車である73系の「モハ＋モハ＋クハ…」で編成されているが，現在は，「クハ＋サハ＋モハ…」であり，中間車には，映画にあるように，「クハ」が来ることはもうない。

上の写真は，先頭車。下の写真は，小津が，『早春』で，京浜東北線「3輛目」を撮った地点だ。1970年，駅ビル西館が開業しており，それ以前の『早春』当時は，映画のように，もう少し右手に寄ることもできた。
京浜東北線（北行） 3輛目 モハ 209
蒲田駅大森寄りの西口通り抜け通路もできて，『早春』の京浜東北線「3輛目」は，今はこんな所になっている。1956年，ここに，「クハ79168」が来ていたのだ。
私の知っている国電103系の時代も，10輛化はされていたが，まだ貫通化していなかったので，小津の描く京浜東北線は，明らかに，大量輸送時代を迎えた「戦後」の東京の「現実」を描いたものであることが分かる。
JR 蒲田駅 東口
ところで，松竹キネマ蒲田撮影所は，JR蒲田駅東口，現在の大田区民ホール・アプリコの辺りにあった。その「松竹橋」が，今も，残されている。

ホール1階には，「松竹橋親柱」が移設されている。大田区蒲田の貴重な歴史的遺産だ。地下1階には，撮影所全体の模型も展示されている。

蒲田駅構内の線路を一望できる地点が，蒲田陸橋（環八）。『早春』当時は，まだない。下の写真の上方が，北方向（大森・品川方面）。その下左手（南西方向）には，蒲田操車場（蒲田電車区）に向かう線路がある。停車している電車は，4番線に入線する蒲田駅出庫始発電車である（折返し始発の場合は，3番線）。『早春』に登場する始発電車の，今の姿である。

53年前の『早春』の蒲田駅始発電車が，今でもこうやって，4番線入線を待っている……
※ 「クハ」（Tc）は，先頭車（後尾車）で用いる制御車（運転台付き），「モハ」（M）は，中間車に用いる電動車（運転台がない，但し，63系の場合は運転台の有無を表さない），「サハ」（T）は，附随車（モーターも運転台もない），「クモハ」（Mc）は，電動制御車（モーターと運転台付き）のことである。中間車に「クハ」ないし「クモハ」を用いるということは，そこで連結を切り離す必要性があったことを示している。京浜東北線は，山手線よりも，10輛化は早かったが，貫通化（連結を切り離さずに済む車輛編成）が遅れていたのである。「ハ」は，普通車を表す。尚，『早春』に登場する「モハ73339」は，改造されて運転台のある先頭車として使われている。京浜東北線は，東京駅を挿んで，北は大宮から，南は大船（根岸線）まで結んでいるので，「上り・下り」とは言わず，「北行き・南行き」と言う（但し，実際上は，「大宮行き」といった具体名で言っている）。ところで，関係のない話だが，「サハ」は，モーターの振動がないので，乗り心地が良い。「サロ」は，グリーン車なので，更に良い。このように鉄道用語を使って話すのは，実は，小津組の特色でもあり，小津の映画技法を支えていたものであった。
※ 『早春』の1輛目「モハ73339」は，旧「モハ63552」（1947年製造），1953年改番，その後，「クモハ73339」に改番（1959年）。2輛目「モハ72203」は，旧「モハ63676」（1947年製造），1952年改番。3輛目「クハ79168」は，旧「（未電装）サモハ63340」（1946年製造），1952年改番。

Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear."
